An independent guide to one mountain

lionmountain.org is a visitor guide and reference for Lion Mountain in Mauritius: the hike, the history, the nature and the places around it.

What this site is

One place to plan a visit to Lion Mountain properly: where the trail starts, how hard it really is, when to go, what to carry, what you will see from the top and what the mountain has witnessed.

It is an independent publication. It is not an official government, Forestry Service or tourism authority website.

How the guides are researched

Factual claims about the route, access, heritage and ecology are based on official and primary sources, published research and recorded routes, and every guide lists its sources at the bottom. Route geometry is drawn from OpenStreetMap and checked against recorded tracks. Where sources disagree, the guides say so and give the range rather than a single invented figure.

Weather estimates use the Open-Meteo forecast for the summit. They are a planning aid, never a substitute for the official forecast and your own judgement on the day.

Independence and money

Recommendations are never sold. Where a page links to a bookable experience or a place to stay, the link is labelled and it never changes the safety guidance. If a partnership would ever conflict with honest advice, the advice wins.
